Strategy
To renovate a vintage 1926 brick and terra cotta
Seattle hotel and take full advantage of its ideal
location—where the hip Belltown neighborhood
meets the downtown’s core retail district. |

Story
We updated the traditional “Seattle meets Scandinavia” story with
the Andra, which means “change” in Swedish. Guests enter a cool
fusion of contemporary Scandinavian design and natural elements—water,
wood, stone— indigenous to the Northwest. The synergy begins in the hotel’s
living room, with its Jacobsen swan chairs, distressed plank floors inset with
custom hand-knotted rugs, and a fireplace of local split-grain granite topped
with a steel-wrapped plasma screen that projects a rotating collection of fine
art. Floating above: the exposed Loft, with its sleek salon chairs and glass-and-steel
railing. Guest rooms and suites have the same alluring mix of warm comfort
and minimalist style.
