Campbell’s Resort is a throwback to a different time while not being particular as to exactly when. It is an American ideal of the quintessential family vacation with kids and BBQ in tow. A collection of lakeside buildings that were built over the years by the Campbell family, each building is unique and reflective of the era it originally represents. It is a collection of motel architecture dating from the 1930s to the 1990s. The hotel grew as their reputation grew, and the hotel became a regional icon.Everything about the design that DDA created, suggests a privately-owned cottage that has evolved over generations, leaving the guest to reflect on his or her own history – of remembering “those lazy summer days”, of learning how to first swim in the lake, of catching the “big one” going fishing with dad. The new look is playfully sophisticated without sacrificing the friendly and laid-back attitude expected by the guest looking for that magical weekend escape.
The charm of the property is layered in the design, instilling retro, yet contemporary, elements that play on the light-hearted whimsy of those memories. A summery, inviting palette in hues of teals, yellows, blues, and beiges give the room a warm and sunny coziness. Being on the shores of the lake influenced the textures, colors, and patterns chosen for the rooms, inviting the outside in, as exampled by the custom created carpet that mimics the mirror refractions of Chelan. A custom, fanciful, one-of-a-kind driftwood lounge chair, also found in the guestrooms, captures the eccentric nature of the resort.
Furniture was selected in the same spirit as the diversity of buildings that make up Campbell’s Resort. For instance, the tall headboard wrapped in a contemporary basket-weave Plynal fabric, frames the bed with its playful 1960’s-‘Mod’ style pillows and striped chenille throw. What is now a nightstand was the result of finding inspiration from a classic1940s two-tone metal dresser with rounded corners. Such selections invoke a playful juxtaposition of timely pieces in a timeless manner. Further reinforcing this notion, the past of Campbell’s Resort is highlighted with a collection of historical photos of guests enjoying their summers at the property. Every room is now also equipped with up-to-date technology such as iPod docking stations/alarm clocks, large LCD televisions, and contemporary and sleek bathroom vanities, providing the guests with those the modern day necessities.
