Strategy
To amp up the energy level of a landmark Seattle
hotel to bring a playful sense of warmth and collegiality
to its original 1928 Art Deco design. Also: to transform
its top-floor storeroom into a trio of exclusive
suites. |

Story
Think Gatsby meets Ellington—and Edward Hopper,
whose paintings inspired the hotel’s rich palette
of golds, blues and persimmon. Original details,
including the terrazzo tile floors, were preserved
to become an integral part of the hotel’s reincarnation.
Public spaces have the aura of glamorous vintage
living rooms and libraries. Guest rooms have the
easy, elegant luxe of a very posh, very private club.
Rising above it all, the Tower takes penthouse life
to cool new heights. Each vibrantly colored suite
is the essence of one of the high-voltage primary
hues used throughout the hotel. Color-infused glass
vanities and bars and sleek-lined furnishings give “penthouse
chic” a contemporary edge.
