Located on Newport, Rhode Island’s historic Bellevue Way, Hotel Viking was built by the Vanderbilt and the Astor families, whose famous mansions are down the street. The challenge was to re-produce a guestroom experience that feels like a B&B in a private mansion, epitomizing the luxury, opulence, and romance of the ‘Gilded Era’. First opened in 1926 and now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the original guestroom tower of 80 rooms was the hotel’s last sell. With only FF&E work having been done since it was built, our goal was to renovate this historic wing so it would become the hotel’s “exclusive historic tower”, significantly increasing the rates and occupancy for the property overall.
